Case 1A: Return of the Legends
Upon taking this class you find yourself walking alone down a dark street. You discover in front of you a shiny brass lamp which looks old, but well kept. It is strange that you find this lamp sitting in the middle of the street so you walk up to it, pick it up, and ponder who it might belong to.
To your astonishment you are greeted by a wise genie that has been trapped in this lamp for more than 100 years. As expected, you have been granted three wishes. After spending your first two wishes on all of the money in the world and acquiring a 200 IQ, you choose to reflect on this class an use your third wish to invite three of history's most prominent leaders to come forth and share their leadership experiences with you. You have chosen Napoleon Bonaparte, France's greatest general, John F. Kennedy, our 35th president, and Mahatma Gandhi, India's revolutionary, yet peaceful leader.
With very different backgrounds, histories, and situations, you ask each of them to sit in council and explain to you why he was a successful leader. Your questions are as follows:
How do you lead?
Give me a brief paragraph (4-5 sentences) for how each of the approaches below would apply to this situation. Then tell me which approach you feel is best and why.
Scenario
You are about to lead a group of 20 people in a potentially deadly battle. The group is not yet committed to the plan of attack. How would you lead this group based on the following historic leadership approaches?
